Senior Accountant/Analyst

We have an immediate opening for a Senior Accountant/Analyst to work on site.

Summary of Duties:

The Senior Accountant/Analyst, reporting to the Finance Manager and Director of Finance, will be responsible for assisting in the facilitation, preparation and analysis of the financial statements, budget, forecasts, and ad hoc analysis; providing accounting operations and financial analysis support to various accounting team members on processing transactions for Accounts Payable, Trust, Billings, Collections, and Accounts Receivable; and assist on a variety of business and client needs within the organization.

Job Responsibilities and Key Competencies:

  • Prepare and consolidate the planning processes, including budget, forecast, and projection, to ensure operating and capital plans are prepared on a timely and collaborative basis that aligns with the firm’s long-term strategic plan.
  • Prepare and analyze financial data and variance reports on actual results with plans and forecast; compile and distribute variance reports to various departments.
  • Facilitate and assist with the financial and regulator audits by preparing and providing schedules, reports, and information as required.
  • Interpret financial statements and reports with consideration for identifying key performance measurements and providing financial analysis.
  • Responsible for monthly general ledger account reconciliations; prepare and post daily and month-end journal entries on a timely and accurate basis; monitor existing procedures and identify parameters to strengthen controls; streamline, standardize and automate existing processes; ad hoc accounting activities resulting from any finance initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to provide ongoing financial planning and analysis support, perform post-mortem analysis on completed initiatives to identify areas of improvement, analyze future initiatives to manage costs according to plan, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Support the Accounting department with processing transactions for all areas including: Accounts Payable, Trust, Billings, Collections, and Accounts Receivable.
  • Process interim and monthly client invoices, including verifying authorization levels and processing of write-downs, write-offs, reversals, transfers, rates, and other corrections.‎
  • Arrange for payments to be made from the firm trust accounts and applied to client bills as authorized ‎by lawyers.
  • Assists with processing trust transactions, including deposits, transfers, draws, post-dated cheques, incoming and outgoing wire ‎transfers, and any other form of payments as required.
  • Evaluate current processes and procedures to find areas for increased efficiencies and recommend alternatives or improvements.
  • Assist with the implementation of approved changes to departmental processes.
  • Protect operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Assist with projects and ad hoc requests, as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required – Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, Business, or similar discipline would be beneficial.
  • CPA, CFA, or MBA is preferred.

Experience

  • 5+ years of accounting or relevant experience working in a similar capacity at another Professional Services firm/partnership – preferably the Legal industry.

Skills & Abilities

  • Solid knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, and regulatory and reporting requirements is a must.
  • Strong understanding of the Law Society of Ontario rules & requirements is an asset.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office especially Excel, and experience working with Thomson Reuters Elite 3E, document management systems and other databases - preferably familiarity with SQL.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools, data warehouse, BI tools, Visual Basic (Macros), and reporting applications is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational skills, and self-motivated individual with proactive approach who continuously looks for efficiencies and improvements.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure to manage multiple deadlines and produce a high quality and quantity of work product.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional work teams and efficiently multi-task and prioritize to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are required to work with senior members of the firm, including Partners.

Entry Level Technical Support Specialist

We have an immediate opening for an entry level Technical Support Specialist to work onsite.

Summary of Duties:

The Technical Support Specialist, reporting to the Director of Information Technology, will be responsible for the effective ongoing technical support of all firm staff. The individual will also work as part of a team with the other IT Department Staff and will be responsible for prioritizing tasks, and frequently checking in with the Director on the progress and results of assigned tasks and system issues which may arise.

Job Responsibilities and Key Competencies:

  • Respond to technical support requests from users to ensure that a sense of “customer service” is maintained.
  • Maintaining the Helpdesk log in order to effective track and monitor the progress of reported Helpdesk calls.
  • Implement Information Technology projects according to the Information Technology Department Project Plans.
  • Assists in conducting hardware and software upgrades, rollouts, and special projects on an as-needed basis.
  • Assists in the lifecycle management and administration of various IT resources and systems.
  • Utilizes procedures to document problems, recommends constructive improvements to procedures, and ensures updated procedures are written and followed.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as requested to enhance the overall IT operation.

Qualifications:

  • Educational Certification denoting computer user support qualifications or associated courses with applicable work experience is required.
  • Minimum one year in a computer related technical support position.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong ability to deal with high stress situations and calmly/effectively “work the problem.”
  • Wide range of software exposure/experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is a must.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Document Management Systems; knowledge of DocsOpen an asset.
  • Strong exposure to high demand Document Production environments is a must.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows is a major asset.
