David is a senior partner and co-chair of the Commercial Real Estate group. He has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial real estate, acting for purchasers, vendors, owners, lenders and tenants of commercial real estate projects. Over the past several years, David has acted for clients with particular emphasis on property project development, financings, acquisitions, dispositions and REITs.

David’s project experience includes mixed-use developments, industrial facilities and condominium developments. He also has a broad base of experience in public and private transactions.

David often leads a team of lawyers on complex transactions that require expertise from other members of the firm. It is his ability to include other people that allows him serve as the outside “in-house” counsel for his clients. Clients respect David’s ability to develop solutions to complex problems that enable them to maximize profits while ensuring long term goals are achieved.

David has become a trusted advisor for H&R REIT, a TSX listed real estate investment trust, by providing ongoing advice on real property matters.  The advice he provides to Fieldgate Homes in acquiring commercial properties and in bridge financings and permanent financings has allowed Fieldgate to strengthen their position as one of Canada's preeminent real estate developers.

David is a frequent lecturer on issues relating to commercial property matters for the Canadian Bar Association and The Law Society of Upper Canada as well as an instructor in the Bar Admission Course.

In David’s private life, he has significant commitment to community service, volunteering his time and energy to a variety of community associations and organizations.
