Tim is a Senior Partner and Chair of our Financial Services Group. His practice focuses on advising both traditional and non-traditional financial institutions, the accounting firms that provide services to these institutions, and their respective corporate and individual clients.

Over the past 25 years, Tim's practice has evolved from one that focused exclusively on insolvency law and the legal issues that arise in corporate debt restructuring, to one that includes providing strategic advice in connection with the ever-increasing challenges and risks faced by lenders, borrowers, and their financial advisors.

As head of Minden Gross LLP’s Financial Services Group, Tim leads a team of innovative business lawyers who provide cross-disciplinary advice in response to the complex legal and practical challenges faced by participants in the financial services sector. These lawyers are recognized for their depth of knowledge and expertise in the demanding business and financial marketplace where constant adaptation in the development and implementation of financing, restructuring, and enforcement solutions is required and expected.

Tim and his team are regularly called upon to provide trusted advice on all aspects of financing, refinancing, and debt restructuring. His clients include traditional and non-traditional lenders, borrowers, suppliers, landlords, trustees in bankruptcy, Court- and privately-appointed receivers and interim receivers, court-appointed monitors, and guarantors of debt owed by corporations in financial distress.

Clients seek Tim out for his reputation in providing practical business and legal solutions, especially in crisis situations. By adopting a holistic approach rather than focusing only on the law, Tim enables clients to make timely, well-informed, and intelligent business decisions that achieve results and mitigate risk. He has become one of Canada’s “go-to” financial services advisors and one of a select few lawyers who are sought out by both the lender and debtor communities.

Tim is a frequent lecturer at professional institutes, legal associations, and banking and business community programmes.

Tim’s other passion is flying. He is an instrument rated private pilot, flying single engine land and sea planes. Tim is currently working toward a commercial pilot’s license.
